Born at Kodialbail, Mangalore, and ordained a priest in 1910, he dedicated his life to the spiritual, social, and educational upliftment of the people.
At the remarkable age of 83, with a deep concern for rural youth, he founded Milagres College in 1967 with the dream of making higher education accessible to the children of farmers and ordinary families. His vision reflected an extraordinary commitment to inclusive, transformative education.

A Life of Faith & Dedicated Service
Monsignor Denis Jerome D'Souza was born at Kodialbail, Mangalore, and felt called to the priesthood from an early age. Ordained in 1910, he entered a life of total dedication — serving his community not only through pastoral care, but through a relentless pursuit of social and educational upliftment for those who had the least.
His decades of priestly service brought him close to the people of Kallianpur — their joys, their struggles, and their aspirations. He saw, with clarity, that the children of farmers and working families lacked access to higher education. Rather than accepting this as inevitable, he responded with action.
In 1967, at the age of 83, Monsignor D'Souza founded Milagres College, Kallianpur — under the management of the Catholic Board of Education of the Diocese of Mangalore. This was no small act. It was the culmination of a lifetime of faith, hope, and love for the people he served.
He believed that education was a powerful means of social transformation and that every young person, regardless of their background, deserved the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to society. The institutions he established remain lasting monuments to his faith, vision, and dedicated service.
